Did you know?

Two words are said to be homographs if they share the same spelling but have different meanings, e.g. read (present tense) and read (past tense).

  • 1.1 You have at least five years' professional experience working in your related field.
  • 1.2 You are able to provide examples of your work to demonstrate your ability.
  • 1.3 You are able to provide references who are willing to validate the quality of your work, your credentials and your character.
  • 1.4 You have successfully completed an associated training course through an approved professional body such as the Publishing Training Centre or the Chartered Institute of Linguistics in the UK, or you have over 10 years' experience in your field and outstanding references.
  • 1.5 You have a good level of education, preferably a degree from a reputable university.
  • 1.6 You have good keyboarding skills.
  • 1.7 You have access to and are highly proficient in using the internet, email and Microsoft Word.
  • 1.8 You have excellent language ability including a solid understanding of modern usage, cultural influences and specialised vocabulary for your specified industries/areas of study.
  • 1.9 You are a native English speaker, born and raised in a country where English is the only official language.
  • 1.10 As a translator, you translate into English.
  • 1.11 You are willing to invest in items such as dictionaries, thesauri, word-processing and/or translation software, internet access and anything else necessary to perform your job effectively.
  • 1.12 You work well under pressure and are committed to delivering high quality work on time with a focus on being accurate, conscientious, diligent, exact, fastidious, meticulous, principled, reliable, responsible and scrupulous.
  • 1.13 You have a positive attitude and would be described by your associates as adaptable, approachable, considerate, flexible, good-natured, helpful, optimistic, respectful and responsive.
  • 1.14 You are willing to work as an independent contractor
  • 1.15 You are able to accept payment by bank transfer if you are based in the UK, or through PayPal if you are based outside the UK.
