Editing Services
At SEI, we understand our customers have different needs so we provide a full range of editing services to suit any requirement. As you will see, each time you submit a project to us we ask you the following questions:
- How many words do you have/need? - This gives us an indication of the volume of work involved so we can determine the timescales we can offer.
- When do you need your work completed? - This allows us to schedule in your project and organise our resources accordingly.
- What level of service do you require? - By identifying the complexity of your project at this early stage, we can ensure the fee you are quoted is accurate.
If you haven't used our services before and are unsure which service you require, please read the following information. Please note that one page consists of 300 words.
Comprehensive Editing
Most suitable for academic and non-technical documents containing less than 70 pages.
Suitable documents are those which are fundamentally well written and presented, requiring only minor editorial changes to improve grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity and flow. Submitted documents’ formatting should only require checking for consistency.
Your assigned editor will analyse and correct your document, highlight areas of ambiguity, provide in-depth recommendations using Microsoft Word or PowerPoint comments and/or footnotes, and restructure sections as required.
You will be provided two final documents in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint according to the type of file you submitted. One will show amendments by using Microsoft Track Changes or coloured text, the other will be a clean copy with all Tracked Changes accepted and the colouring of amended text removed so it is ready for use.
Advanced Editing and Consulting
Most suitable for technical documents, those requiring substantial editing and those warranting special attention due to their high level of importance, such as CVs, résumés and cover letters. May be suitable for documents written by people for whom English is a second language if the writer has a firm understanding of the language and how it should be applied.
Documents requiring substantial editing are those which entail a high number of changes to improve and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and word selection. The clarity and flow of affected documents is often awkward due to the use of imprecise or inappropriate vocabulary and poor sentence structure. There may also be a lot of excess wording and repetition to be removed, and formatting and presentation may require attention.
In addition to the Comprehensive Editing option, your assigned editor will act as your personal consultant, accessible via email to determine objectives for your project, provide in-depth recommendations, discuss areas that need to be rewritten and/or resolve any queries that may rise during the course of the work.
Complex Editing and Consulting
Most suitable for documents requiring extensive editing such as those written by people for whom English is a second language.
Documents requiring extensive editing are those which entail a high number of significant changes to improve and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and word selection. Affected documents are difficult to understand due to the use of imprecise or inappropriate vocabulary, poor sentence structure and disjointed paragraphs. They are likely to contain a lot of excess wording and repetition to be removed. The text will need to be reconstructed and reorganised and the formatting and presentation may also need to be addressed.
This option includes consultation of the same nature as for the Advanced Editing and Consulting option.
Large Project Comprehensive Editing and Consulting
Suitable for academic and non-technical documents containing more than 70 pages.
This option includes consultation of the same nature as for the Advanced Editing and Consulting option.
